FIVE years ago Tom Grice had dreams of cooking up a culinary storm in the kitchen and now he finds himself behind the cooker of a Michelin-starred restaurant.

He can now be found at the highly-acclaimed Adam’s Restaurant in Birmingham where he works as chef de partie. Adam’s Restaurant serves modern style British food and holds a Michelin Star and three AA Rosettes.

But it has been a journey that has seen Tom put in hours of work slaving over a hot stove.

Tom’s mum Cheryl Willis said: “Tom chose Design Food as an option at Commonweal as he was inspiring to be a chef. He really enjoyed his two years studying the subject and had plenty of encouragement from his two teachers, Chris Shepherd and Jane Cauldwell to carry on with the subject as a career when he left school. He looked around at local colleges and away from home before moving away from Swindon at the age of 16 and living with a host family in Bournemouth.”

After leaving The Commonweal School in 2010 Tom completed a three-year Royal Academy of Culinary Arts Chefs Apprenticeship at Bournemouth College and Tylney Hall Hotel in Hampshire.

He then spent 2014 in London at the Michelin-starred Pied à Terre honing his skills as a commis chef before moving on in November to Adam’s Restaurant.

And his new kicthen has also recently achieved even further critical acclaim having been voted the fourth best fine dining establishment in the world and the best for fine dining in the UK by online reviewers, according to the TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice awards.
