BEAMING from ear to ear as his little daughter was crowned Swindon Advertiser’s Baby of the Year yesterday, proud dad Md Habib could hardly contain his excitement.

“We have come to live in Swindon from Bangladesh and are trying to make our mark here and what better way to do that than for our little girl to win this competition,” he said.

The family who live in Manchester Road, Swindon couldn’t believe it when they heard Habiba Alisha, now 11-months old, had won the coveted prize.

“We saw the competition and we just thought, ‘why not? Let’s give it a go’. Then when we got the call to say she had won we were really surprised and pleased,” said mum Most Khatun.

And she added: “My daughter’s birthday is on December 19. Last year she was our present from God and this year she has brought us a present from the Swindon Advertiser.”

For runner up Jayden Harris, entering the competition really was a last-minute decision after being talked into having a go by Jayden’s proud grandma, Jill Harris.

Dad Chris and mum Carli Westmacott who live at Whittingham Drive, Alexandra Park, Wroughton said they finally caved in and decided to enter for a bit of peace and quiet.

“She kept telling us to enter him and we didn’t do anything about it," said Chris.

“Then when we did get to Asda where the pictures were being taken, the photographer was just about to start packing up so we got in by the skin of our teeth."

When Jayden, now 18 months was, announced as the runner up, Chris says the little boy’s grandma was “Just over the moon.”
