FATHER Christmas may travel by sleigh to deliver all of his many Christmas presents, but festive cheer will arrive at the Great Western Hospital in the run up to the magical day on just two wheels.

Pinkertons Motorcycle Club is once again preparing to take on the role of Santa’s Little Helpers when they deliver a sleigh-load of toys and equipment to the hospital next month alongside the big man himself.

But they have called for some help from residents in Swindon as they gather up their Christmas gifts which will bring some festive cheer to those children who are facing a Christmas in hospital this year.

Pinkertons Motorcycle Club secretary Mandy Strickland said: “Each year, Pinkertons buys new games consoles, televisions and play equipment for the family rooms at the Great Western Hospital, plus every child gets a gift, personally delivered by Santa.

“All money donated goes to the Children’s Ward, with toys and equipment being delivered by Santa on Saturday 12th December.

“We will be holding a collection in Swindon town centre, outside Debenhams, on Saturday 28th November to bring a little bit of happiness to children who will be in hospital during the Christmas period.”

They are calling on residents in Swindon to dig deep and help them provide a memorable Christmas for the children who will be away from their homes and on the wards at the Great Western Hospital this Christmas.

They will be making their 24th annual toy run to the hospital in a spectacular convoy – lead by Father Christmas himself, who will be taking time-out from his Christmas Eve preparations – when they leave Swindon Rugby Club on Saturday, December 12 heading for the hospital.

Mandy said there would be a number of points along the planned convoy route for people to wave them on as they journeyed to the Great Western Hospital.

She said: “The 24th annual Toy Run will leave the Swindon Rugby Club in Greenbridge Lane at 12 noon, for a ride through the streets of Swindon, arriving at the Great Western Hospital at approximately 12.45pm. All bikers and trikers are welcome to come along and join the ride.

“Spectators can get the best view of Santa leading the biker procession along Cricklade Road and Queens Drive.”
