Oxford Brookes University has announced it will be moving from its existing campus in Swindon to larger premises as part of a £10 million investment over the next decade.

Currently based at the Ferndale Campus, Oxford Brookes’ new home in the town will be the Delta 900 building on the Delta Business Park.

As a result of increased demand and the high quality of graduates gaining qualifications from Oxford Brookes, the NHS has commissioned increasing numbers of healthcare students to be taught at the University in recent years.

The new campus will provide Oxford Brookes with greater capacity and improved spaces from which to further enhance its teaching, learning and research.

The new building will enhance the delivery of Oxford Brookes’ current provision in Swindon and offers the potential for further growth and development.

Once refurbished, it will contain a new library, high quality teaching spaces, skills labs, catering facilities and spaces to further support collaboration, research and support for students.

Oxford Brookes has been teaching adult nursing degree and diploma courses at the Ferndale Campus since 1999.

Together with an Operating Department Practice diploma course and a range of continuing professional development (CPD) courses, the University has a flourishing student community in Swindon that is continuing to grow.

The university is planning to move into its new home by September next year.

Now that planning permission has been granted and the contract for the premises has been finalised, work will continue to take place to ensure that the move is well planned for the benefit of students, staff and the University’s wider community.

Oxford Brookes is currently in the process of agreeing the new name for the building which will also be announced in the near future.

Professor Alistair Fitt, Vice Chancellor of Oxford Brookes University, said: “We are delighted to be announcing our new home in Swindon.

“For over 15 years, we have been providing higher education courses in the town and it is the right time for the university to relocate to new premises which match the level and quality of our teaching and support.

“The university already has a strong presence in Swindon with the courses we deliver, the foundation and degree courses we provide in collaboration with Swindon College, our widening participation work in local schools and our sponsorship of UTC Swindon.

“It is well known that there is an appetite for enhanced higher education in Swindon and this £10 million investment represents our commitment to continuing to grow and enhance our provision.”

Professor June Girvin, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, said: "Oxford Brookes University is very proud of the courses it provides in Swindon and the majority of those who study at our Swindon campus go on to care for patients in the local NHS.

“Our student numbers have increased in recent years which reflects not only the requirement for healthcare staff but the skills, expertise and compassionate care which our students embody. It is only right that our campus in Swindon matches the quality of our graduates and I look forward to us moving into our new home in 2016.”
