A FUNDRAISING event in memory of popular Swindon ambulance driver Wallace ‘Wally’ Standing will take place at the StoweAway, Wichelstowe, on Saturday.

Wally died following a heart attack in June 1996 and last year his family decided to launch a year of fundraising activities to mark the 20th year of his death.

This included a 40-mile walk along the Ridgeway, organised by Wally’s daughter Sarah Standing and a group of friends, which raised £2,000 for the British Heart Foundation as part of the charity’s Year Of Opportunities.

“This one will be a little kinder to our feet and our tummies,” said Sarah.

The event, between 10am and 1pm, will feature a selection of hand-made crafts and visitors can have a go at making something themselves.

There will also be tea and coffee and a selection of cakes.

A spokesman for the BHF said: “The charity urgently needs your support.
