CHRISTMAS Care has been boosted by a £1,000 donation from Swindon Moose just before a meeting appealing for more volunteers to get involved.

Patsy Moloney, chairman of Christmas Care, spoke to local members of the international fraternity at  Moose Hall, Eastcott Road, and chairman Kevin Hayes presented a cheque.

A second meeting for Christmas Care shelter volunteers takes place on Thursday.

Nearly 100 people packed into Queen’s Drive Methodist Church on Wednesday evening for the first Christmas Care shelter meeting.

But more volunteers are needed if the shelter is to open and provide hot food for those in need this Christmas period.

Mr Moloney said: “We open the shelter on Christmas Eve until December 28 and it is open 24-hours-a-day.

“When our guests come in on Christmas Eve they can shower, have a complete change of clothing and foot wear.

"They are welcome to breakfast from 8am until 9.30am, lunch each day from 1.30pm to 2.30pm and a buffet in the evening. At no time in the 24 hours over the four days are our guests refused a hot drink or food."

The meeting will be at Queen’s Drive Methodist Church on Thursday, November 26, from 7.30pm for anyone wanting to support the shelter.
