BRITAIN’S Next Top Models can hold their heads a little higher thanks to the creative efforts of a Swindon hairdresser who will appear on our TV screens in the New Year.

Joshua Goldsworthy, who works alongside father Steven at family business Goldsworthy’s Hairdressing on Catherine Street, has recently returned from a three and a half week filming shoot in Jamaica for the popular TV show which looks to find the next Kate Moss.

As well as appearing on camera making the models look their absolute best for the runway, he was also called upon to style judges Abbey Clancey, Hilary Alexander and Nicky Johnston.

He said: “They were really lovely, and so easy to get on with – they really appreciated the time we take to make them look their best. My work on TV in the past has been for one-offs or back stage at fashion week, but this was for a series, so to have something where you on camera pretty much all of the day was pretty cool, and I am really excited to see it aired in January.”

Joshua, who has previously appeared on BBC Three’s Young Hairdresser of the Year also made it through to the finals of the British Hairdresser of the Year Award, which was held in the Grosvenor Hotel in London on Monday evening. He narrowly missed out on the top spot, but was back at work for 9am on Tuesday morning at the family business, which has been established for more than 50 years.

The title is one that Steven has won three times in the past, landing him a place in the British Hairdressing Hall of Fame.

Joshua has also managed to squeeze in visits to Paris Fashion Week in amongst his filming duties, as well as his regular clients in Swindon, and he said it was down to the support of his family that he was able to take as much time off as he needed to in order to make it big.

He said: “Working with my parents, they have always pushed me and allowed me not to be in the salon for six weeks, and they step up and take on my clients. Everyone here has really supported me and allowed me to go off and do my stuff.”

But it is not just Joshua who has been leading the jet-set lifestyle of late, with dad Steven’s talents increasingly in demand across the globe. He has also recently returned from Russia where he was judging the annual Russian Hairdressing Awards, while on Saturday he flew to Germany to judge the Wella Trend Vison Final.

He said that Great British hairdressing was still the best in the world, revealing a Brit had taken one of the top awards in Berlin. He also spoke of his pride at Joshua’s success on Monday night.

“It is brilliant, absolutely amazing to see some of the biggest names in the industry coming up to him and saying how fantastic his work is.”
