STAFF and regulars at the Royal George pub, in Purton, have donated a cheque for more than £1,000, raised at the pub’s first beer festival, to the Prospect Hospice.

The beer festival took place over the August bank holiday weekend and featured a barbecue, an auction and a raffle of items donated by the pub’s customers.

There was also live music and guest ales.

Other events included a funfair and a 24-hour darts marathon, all planned to make the biggest possible fundraising total for the Wroughton-based hospice.

Licensee Mel Gravestock was delighted that the pub’s regulars rallied round for such a good cause.

“The people of Purton were brilliant in showing their support for Prospect Hospice,” she said.

“As it was our first beer festival here, we wanted it to support a popular local charity.

“And the support for Prospect Hospice is so widespread in the village.

“I think we would be lucky to match this amount when we have similar events in the future.

“We were all really pleased by what we were able to raise.”

Prospect Hospice community fundraiser Amy Francombe said: “We are so grateful to everyone at the Royal George at Purton for this fantastic donation.

“It will benefit patients and families supported by Prospect Hospice.

“Our thanks go to everyone who supported the pub’s beer festival and helped to raise this wonderful amount.”
