MARION SAUVEBOIS looks towards a hot indie-rock group’s sold out show

THE 1975 promise to live up to the hype when they rock up the Oasis tomorrow night following the release of their anticipated new single Love Me.

The release of the Mancunian indie band’s first EP, Facedown, in August 2012 marked the band’s first UK airplay on national radio. The lead track, The City, featured on a BBC Introducing show with Huw Stephens on Radio 1.

Their self-titled debut album followed and was one of the most talked about of 2013, winning over fans and critics alike. It was co-produced by Mike Crossey, who has previously worked with Arctic Monkeys and Foals.

The 1975 toured in the UK in September 2013, performing in Kingston upon Hull as headliners at Freedom Festival, a celebration of the city’s shortlisting for 2017 UK City of Culture designation, and at iTunes Festival as the opening act for indie electronic quartet Bastille. The band also performed in North American, European, New Zealand and Australia. In September 2013, the band performed three sold out shows at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire. The following year they made their debut at Coachella and played at the Royal Albert Hall.

In October this year, the band announced their second studio album I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It slated for a February 2016 release. They also premiered the first single of the album entitled Love Me.

This new single has now solidified their status as household names.

The perfect blend of dance rock, techno and pop hooks they prove that good rock can have pop/radio appeal. The show at the Oasis is sold out. For upcoming concerts go to the1975.com.
