A RESIDENTIAL street was blocked for around an hour on Sunday afternoon after a large tree branch came crashing down in the high winds.

Fairford Crescent resident Nigel Fry said he hadn’t heard the tree come down, but the wind had been very loud most of the afternoon.

He said: “When I looked out the window at about 2 o’clock there was nothing there. But a friend of mine came over at about 2.30pm and said ‘crikey, that’s a strong wind that’s brought that tree down’. I didn’t know what he was talking about, then I looked out again and saw it.”

The tree, which appears to have split half way down its trunk, is thought to have been on the crescent for at least 40 years.

Nigel rang the council to report the blocked road, but was told that the issue had already been reported and a team was on the way.

He said: “The council were informed and to be fair within an hour of the report the tree was cleared and the road re open again. I was very impressed.”
