RAIL services to Swindon and Wiltshire were being delayed for up to an hour after a woman was killed by a train this morning.

British Transport Police were called to Didcot Parkway railway station just after 11am and confirmed that the woman was hit by a freight train and died at the scene.

All rail lines have now reopened but delays were expected to continue for many services this afternoon.

BTP spokesperson Sarah Buxton said: “Officers are investigating the circumstances around what happened but, at this stage, the death is not being treated as suspicious.”

Network Rail tweeted at 11.29am: “We’re liaising with the British Transport Police and emergency services. Lines are currently all blocked.”

Great Western Railway spokesman James Davis said: "Services are likely to be delayed by over an hour or cancelled.

"Other train companies are accepting GWR tickets and passengers could travel instead to London Marylebone via Banbury or Oxford Parkway.

"We are providing coaches for passengers travelling to Reading and Swindon."
