IMPATIENT drivers trying to escape traffic in Great Western Way are being warned by police to not make U-turns after two cars got stuck in mud.
Officers had to help assist with freeing the vehicles on Wednesday lunchtime when the drivers drove onto the central reservation and their cars became stuck.
A number of similar incidents have also been reported as people try to avoid the heavy traffic from the Mannington Roundabout towards the Bruce Street Bridges.
As a result police have now issued safety advice to avoid anyone getting hurt.
A spokesman said: “Whilst we appreciate that the ongoing roadworks are causing traffic problems here, it is not acceptable to make these U-turns as it means re-joining the carriageway in the outside lane which is unsafe and could be considered dangerous.
“In addition to this, the ground is very soft and you are liable to get stuck if you attempt it.
“Please be patient and do not resort to dangerous manoeuvres for the sake of waiting in traffic for a relatively short time. Drive safely.”
