DANCING camels and sparkling stars shared the stage at St Batholomew’s Primary School in Royal Wootton Bassett this week.

Key Stage 1 pupils brought to life the joyful tale of “A Miracle in Town,” complete with song and dance routines.

In fact they have been so enthusiastic about their Nativity performances that they have even been heard singing the songs in the playground.

Key Stage 1 leader Julie Rivers said: “They are loving the songs.

“We are finding that children who aren’t even in school know them because they are being practised at home.”

She added: “When I do playground duty I have heard them singing.”

The play by Niki Davies, is based on the traditional Nativity story, but has a few little twists, including a dance number for the Three Kings’ camels and some reception class stars that twinkle for one of the songs.

“The children have worked really hard to learn their lines,” said Mrs Rivers.

She explained the youngsters started working on the songs at the beginning of November and those with speaking roles had spent the past two weeks learning them off by heart.

“We always do a nativity and we always choose different versions every year so the children can learn different songs.”

She added that, as always, the parents had been a huge support with organising and making costumes and helping the children to practise.

All reception, Year 1 and Year 2 classes, - Cygnets, Owls, Puffins, Robins and Kingfishers - have been involved in the production , which started with dress rehearsals in front of a pre-school audience at the end of last week.

Key Stage 2 pupils have their chance to shine at their traditional annual carol service with parents and carers in St Batholomew’s Church on ~Thursday, December 17, at 10.30am.
