SANTA made a very special delivery this festive period with the arrival of three Christmas babies.

The trio of Christmas miracles were delivered at the Great Western Hospital maternity ward, to the delight of their parents.

Thanks to the tireless work of maternity ward staff, the festive bundles of joy were safely delivered just in time for Christmas day.

As the country sat down to open presents, three new mums received their own unexpected Christmas gifts.

Katie Oakey, 18, from Pinehurst gave birth to son Oscar James, weighing seven pounds 12 ounces.

She was overjoyed to welcome her beautiful baby on Christmas day, following a 26-hour labour.

“Oscar was ten days overdue so I was getting a bit fed up but I never expected him to arrive on Christmas Day, it’s not something you ever expect, he is so cute and very chilled out,” she said.

Katie was joined in the delivery suite by proud sister Sam Oakey, who has two little boys of her own who excited about meeting their new cousin.

“We’re planning on having a Christmas Day celebration with his two cousins, it’ll be three boys now and they’re really excited about meeting him so that will be our Christmas day,” she said.

Stuart and Laura Parnham, from Wichelstowe, welcomed baby son Reuben, who weighed in at eight pounds four ounces.

Reuben is the first child for the pair and arrived 10 days late.

“I felt absolutely exhausted when he born. I was a bit high off gas and air but he was so cute and we’re really proud of him,” Laura said.

It’s a momentous week for the pair with Laura due to celebrate her 30th birthday next week.

“He’s an amazing Christmas present and his grandmother can’t wait to spoil him,” said Stuart.

Jana Penickova, from Marlborough, got an extra special gift when she gave birth to baby daughter Jana, two days after her 34th birthday.

Baby Jana, named after three generations of the Penickova family, made an unexpected arrival a month early, weighing in at six pounds one ounce.

And little Jana, who wore a Christmas pudding hat, ensured she didn’t miss out on Christmas day celebrations when she was born at 11.43pm.

“It was a bit of a shock but nice to have her arrive at Christmas," said mum.

"I wasn’t expecting the baby to arrive until late January so I’m feeling a bit tired but happy that she’s here. She’s gorgeous. With our birthdays being so close together December is set to be a fun month.”

All the new babies received a selection of festive knitted goodies courtesy of the Nanny Knitters group.

Dedicated staff at the Great Western Hospital maternity unit welcomed a total of 10 new arrivals over the course of the festive day.
