YOUNG pianists will have the chance to play Jamie Cullum’s piano with the launch of the Swindon Youth Piano Festival.

The March festival, organised by the Commonweal School, aims to showcase the best young pianists in the town complete with masterclasses and an evening recital.

And the students will hope to hit all the right notes with the chance to play Jamie Cullum’s Yamaha Grand Piano, which the school won in a national competition.

The multi-platinum singer-songwriter visited Commonweal School for an exclusive performance in September to talk about his life and career.

Festival organiser Josie Williams said the school was delighted to use Jamie’s piano during the festival.

“We were very fortunate last January to win Jamie’s beloved Yamaha Grand Piano, by popular vote following a national competition. The piano is used on a regular basis for piano lessons and concerts. It is fantastic that we are able to have this wonderful piano for all young people in Swindon to play on and it really does make a difference to inspire the next generation.”

Students will have the opportunity to take part in a musical masterclass which will give them tips on how to improve their performances and technique. A glittering evening performance featuring classical performances will close the festival.

The Swindon Youth Piano Festival will be held at Commonweal’s C6 auditorium on March 17 and is open to any young person up to the age of 18. Applications close on February 12, to apply email josie@commonweal.co.uk or call 01793 427860 for an application form.
