A GIANT bra measuring six metres by two metres is set to raise more funds for the Against Breast Cancer charity.

The bra took four months to create by the Swindon Stitch And Bitch knitting group and was on display last October at the Brunel Centre in an exhibition launched by Erika Roe, who shot to fame after a topless streak at a Twickenham rugby match in 1982.

It was then auctioned on eBay and bought by Swindon business Excalibur Communications for £560.

Karen Thornley, the head of marketing at Excalibur, said: “Housing a giant bra wasn’t exactly part of the plan for our new-look office space but when we read about the auction for Against Breast Cancer we were very keen to help such a worthwhile charity.”

Now the company has decided to put the bra up for auction every month so that 12 different business over the next year can display it for a month at a time.

By moving it around it is hoped it will continue to raise money for the Against Breast Cancer charity.

Sara Witham, the marketing manager for Excalibur, said: “We will be sad to see it go, but it’s time for it to move on now and raise some more money.

“The initial thoughts on the bra in the office were that it was a bit mad and a little crazy — it’s just a bit of a laugh really.”

The mammoth bra, which is actually stuffed with normal sized bras for its padding, has been gracefully hanging in Excalibur’s Swindon offices but Sara said: “It’s time for the big conversation piece to be unleashed to a wider audience.

“Working in close proximity to the giant bra has been quite a novelty for our team and certainly very eye-catching for our many visitors.”

“But we’ve had our turn, so we’d like to hear from other businesses or organisations who for a donation can liven up their office or event by renting the bra to spread the word and raise funds for Against Breast Cancer.”
