A MAN lost his temper and waved a knife at his mum before smashing her table and running away, a court has heard.

Sean Dickinson, 31, who was drunk at the time, scarpered from his mum Wendy Bux’s house in Wilcot Avenue, Penhill before being confronted by police after the outburst on Sunday, January 17.

Now, a judge has handed Dickinson, of Beaulieu Close, Toothill, a 12-month restraining order from going to Ms Bux’s house or having any contact with her in person or online.

James Burnham, prosecuting, told Swindon Magistrates Court yesterday: “He loses his temper with his mum and picks up a knife and runs around with that item. He smashes her table and then runs out of the house before police arrive.

“There was also some abusive words said to her; ‘you’re a f*****g mongrel.

“In her statement she says ‘I am really scared of Sean and his behaviour when he is drunk.’”

Defending, Emma Thacker, replied: “He is very remorseful for what happened and recognises his behaviour changes when he has a drink.

“To no fault of Mr Dickinson, his alcohol treatment only started yesterday due to a delay in appointments being sent to him.”

The court also heard he has previously been convicted of assault and has a restraining order against another woman.

Dickinson pleaded guilty to both charges of possessing a knife in a public place and criminal damage.

Sentencing him Judge Simon Cooper said: “You pleaded guilty to having a knife in a public place and in the kitchen when you were drunk and threatened your mum, as the police officers describe.

“You were too drunk to remember.

“You are 31 and have 43 convictions for a host of different offences. Most of which are aggravated ones. One in particular is an assault on your mother in February 2014.

“Your mother will be glad to get rid of you for 12-months, I see you nodding your head too.”

As well as the 12-month restraining order, Dickinson was given a 20-week suspended sentence for 18-months and a curfew.

He was ordered to pay an £80 victim surcharge and £35 in costs which will be added to the £2,260 he already owes the court and will be taken out his benefits.
