A WOMAN knocked unconscious by a car on Saturday night had a lucky escape, being found by passers-by who called for help.

First aid was given at the scene by an Army paramedic before an ambulance arrived.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the collision between the woman pedestrian, aged 25, and a car on Saturday between 10.45pm and 11.15pm.

The incident happened on the roundabout near the Abbey Mead pub when the woman was crossing the road.

She was hit by a car, described by police as 'a red Nissan Micra or something similar'.

The driver failed to stop at the scene.

The woman was taken to the Great Western Hospital with minor injuries to her abdomen and hip.

Luke Musto said on Facebook: "Was in a taxi on the way home and I had to pull it over as there was an unconscious lass in the road... knocked down by a car apparently.

"Called an ambulence and then the guys started helping divert traffic as half the roundabout was shut down."

"Jen (Musto) and I were the passers-by who found her initially and called for an ambulance.

"The guy who provided first aid was a trained army medic so I left him to it and tried to control the traffic once he and the ambulance arrived."

PC 2735 Beckie Diamon said: "The woman was left unconscious in the road until she was discovered by a passer-by who called for help and gave initial first aid.

"She was very lucky, this could have been a lot worse.

"This is a fairly busy part of Swindon and it's possible someone saw this incident.

"If you can help, please call me on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
