SWINDON Supermarine manager Dave Webb was left disappointed not to have the chance to continue their fine form after their game at Bishops Cleeve was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

The local non-league football action was decimated due to the wet weather in the last couple of days.

Supermarine, who are on a 12 game unbeaten run in Southern League Division One South & West, saw their game fail a 10am pitch inspection, but Webb is not concerned about a potential fixture pile up yet.

“We are disappointed,” he said.

“It is not like it is a massive distance to travel to Cheltenham. It’s not a mid-week game and it is only an hour away.

“You just get concerned about the amount of games that you have got left “I don’t think we’re at the stage yet where you have got to start worrying about playing more than three games in seven days.

“We’re going to have a more congested schedule than you want but it is when you have got to start playing Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday that you have got a problem.

“That’s when, as a manager and a player, it becomes too much.

“As long as we can keep mid-week games to one a week then we should be alright.

“The demands on the players are a lot greater and you can pick up more injuries when you are playing more frequently.”

Supermarine are set to play host to Mangotsfield United on Tuesday evening but, with New College Swindon’s Hellenic League Division One West contest with Carterton, which was due to be played at the Webb’s Wood Stadium, being called off as well, the match is already in doubt.

“The forecast doesn’t look great up until Tuesday so we are hoping that game against Mangotsfield on Tuesday night,” added Webb.

“We’ve given the players a day off today because it has been a real busy schedule with training and games.

“They will have a well-deserved rest and hopefully be ready for Tuesday.”

In Hellenic League Division One West, Purton’s game away to Clanfield is also off due to a waterlogged pitch as well as Shrivenham’s home tie with Tytherington Rocks at Barrington Park for the same reason.
