THE Good Samaritan couple who went to the aid of a woman knocked unconscious in a hit and run say they were just doing what anyone else would do.

Modest Luke and Jen Musto, from Taw Hill were out for drinks at the Abbey Mead pub in Elstree Way on the evening of Saturday, January 30 when they spotted a woman lying in the road.

Their quick actions prevented the victim being hit by any other traffic as she lay in the road.

The incident happened at a roundabout near the pub between 10.45pm and 11.15pm where the 25-year-old woman was hit while crossing the road and the driver failed to stop.

The car was described by police as 'a red Nissan Micra or something similar'.

“We got in the taxi at the end of the night around 11pm when our taxi driver started to turn to avoid what we thought was a coat in the middle of the road,” said Luke.

“I told him to stop immediately because I could see it was a person lying face down in the road. At that moment we didn’t know if they were alive or dead or man or a woman.

“It was difficult to see her because she was lying on her front and wearing a black coat, we didn’t want anyone else to hit her.”

The couple rushed out of the car and found a woman lying unconscious in front of the vehicle.

“I checked her pulse and Jen who has some first aid knowledge put her in the recovery position. I think when something like that happens you automatically help and do what anyone would do,” said Luke.

Luke and Jen, along with a passing army paramedic stayed by the woman’s side until emergency services arrived.

“She was unconscious but she started to come round when we started talking to her. We were so worried about her. It must have literally just happened because she was warm but we couldn’t see any other cars around.

“Luckily a trained paramedic came by with his wife and started to help her. I was just waving at the cars to get them to drive a different way while he cared for her."

The woman was taken to the Great Western Hospital with minor injuries to her abdomen and hip.

PC 2735 Beckie Diamon said: "The woman was left unconscious in the road until she was discovered by a passer-by who called for help and gave initial first aid.

"She was very lucky, this could have been a lot worse.

"This is a fairly busy part of Swindon and it's possible someone saw this incident.
