A 19-YEAR-OLD man is lucky to have sustained only minor injuries after his motorbike was involved in a serious collision on Kingfisher Drive this afternoon.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance landed at Covingham Park as a precaution after the crash at around 3pm on the Lovell Drive junction which resulted in the road being closed.

The collision also caused delays between B4006 Dorcan Way junction and the Merlin Way junction.

The man is believed to have sustained minor injuries to his head, wrist and leg and was taken to the Great Western Hospital by road ambulance.

A Lovell Close resident, who called the police and ambulance, didn’t wish to be named but said a loud noise alerted him to the collision.

He said: “It seemed like someone had gone into our garage at first and it was this almighty bang.

"We came out and there were a few young ladies here and that’s when we saw the bike in the road.”

The Volkswagen Golf was travelling towards Merlin Way when it passed the Yamaha bike.

Police are now investigating how the collision happened.

Sergeant Rich Hatch, from the Roads Policing Unit at Wiltshire Police headquarters in Devizes, said he hopes any further witnesses get in touch.

He added: “All we know at this moment in time is that the Volkswagen was travelling along Kingfisher Drive with the motorcycle travelling in the opposite direction.

"For reasons yet to be established, the car and motorcycle collided and we do not know if the bike turned into the car or vice versa and that matter is now under investigation.

“The man’s injuries have been described by paramedics as minor at this moment and he sustained injuries to his head, wrist and leg.

“Any witnesses we have not yet spoken to, I would urge them to come forward and to call 101 quoting log 188 or call Crimestoppers where information can be left anonymously.”
