A POLICE officer has been treated for a head injury after being involved in a crash on Great Western Way this morning.

Police were involved in a crash with a silver Mitsubishi on Great Western Way in Swindon at around 9.30am today.

A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said: “A man, aged 25, was arrested for failing to stop for police and for driving without a licence.

“The ambulance service attended the scene and treated a police officer for a minor head injury.

“One of the police vehicles mounted the embankment in the incident and the Mitsubishi sustained damage to the front of the vehicle.

“The police officer injured was the driver of the marked patrol car and was treated at the GWH for minor injuries.”

A spokesman for the South Western Ambulance Service said they had attended the scene at 9.41am where they had dealt with one male casualty who was taken into Great Western Hospital with a head injury.

A driver who was driving along Great Western Way shortly after the crash - who did not wish to be identified - said: "A smashed-up police car was off the road completely."
