POLICE have cordoned off an area at Delta Office Park today after receiving a call from a member of the public saying they had seen three people acting suspiciously in the Welton Road area.

Police were called at 9.50am and the suspects fled, ramming a police car with a getaway car as officers tried to stop them.

Four people have now been arrested in connection with the incident.

A police spokesman said: "The suspects made off in a vehicle – a black Audi A4 - and as police tried to stop it, the police car was rammed by the suspect’s vehicle causing some damage.

"Fortunately no injuries were caused to the officers involved.

"It is believed that the suspects abandoned this vehicle and made off in a second vehicle – a white van.

"This van headed off in the direction of the M5 in Gloucestershire and the manner of their driving was considered dangerous.

"Following a police pursuit the van was stopped just off the M5, near junction 10; the suspects made off but have all now been arrested."

Detective Inspector Marj Maccallum said: "We are appealing for witnesses to this incident.

"If you saw anything suspicious in the West Swindon area this morning, involving a black Audi A4 or white van, please call us on 101 or, if you wish remain anonymous, via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
