A SWINDON man has been hospitalised after being hit by a car yesterday, which failed to stop after the incident.

The 42-year-old man was walking along the B4019 Cricklade Road towards Blunsdon at 8.13pm when he was struck by what is thought to be a small hatchback.

The vehicle, which had two occupants and was travelling towards Highworth, stopped briefly after the collision before leaving the scene and leaving the man lying on the side of the road.

The car had a St George flag on its rear number plate and will have scuff marks to the nearside.

The pedestrian was conveyed to Great Western Hospital by ambulance where he was treated for his injuries.

Wiltshire Police are now appealing for witnesses.

A spokesman said: "If anyone witnessed the collision or has any information regarding the vehicle could they please contact PC Rosier on Tri Force specialist operations by calling 101.”
