A TEAM of intrepid trekkers – including one man from Swindon – braved the wintery weather conditions of Dartmoor to take part in a hike to raise money for a children’s charity.

The group of nine haart estate agents from Exeter, Torquay, Fishponds, Swindon and Shirehampton, were taken on a 16-mile charity hike across Dartmoor by a guide who has worked with survival expert Bear Grylls.

Warren Bibby, assistant branch manager at their Stratton St Margaret branch represented the town during the trek which managed to raise £1,800 in sponsorship for the estate agents children’s charity Magic Moments.

The 27-year-old added: “Admittedly, I didn’t train for too long and I left quite early in the morning on the day of the trek and it poured down with rain all day long.

Trek four to five hours to complete

“The trek was something I heard about when they sent an email around to see if anyone was interested in getting involved.

“As the only one taking part, it was something I was interested in and it didn’t seem that extreme.

“The amount of money raised was a mixture of friends, family and some clients getting involved and donating.

“There is an upcoming event for a sponsored bike ride from Cardiff to Colchester which I would again be looking to get involved in, it just depends on timings.”

The group were led on the hike by Tim Treloar, an outdoors survival expert who has appeared on the Bear Grylls Survival School, which featured recently on ITV.

The charity raises money each year to take children with life-limiting illnesses, and their families, on the holiday of a lifetime to Disneyland Paris.

Tim was keen to help support the charity event, he said: “The team at haart were definitely taken out of their comfort zone. They all dug deep and were amazing for such a great charity.”
