NINE fire crews rushed to Swindon College in the early hours of Monday morning after a taxi driver thought he spotted smoke coming from a building.

Two crews from Swindon with the aerial appliance attended along with a crew from Stratton, Westlea, Royal Wootton Basset, Marlborough and Ramsbury.

It turned out to be a false alarm and was identified as steam coming from a boiler vault.

On January 19 there was a fire at the college inside the Gemini Building, used for plumbing training.

Two crews from Swindon were called to the David Murray John Tower in Canal Walk on Sunday morning after the automatic fire alarms went off around 4.50am but it was found to be a false alarm.

A small fire broke out at an electrical substation in Lyneham on Sunday afternoon which resulted in a power cut to properties in the area. A crew from Royal Wootton Bassett and Calne attended the scene in Slessor Road at around 4.25pm
