ASPIRING engineers from Isambard Community School were able to put their skills and knowledge to the test as part of a nationwide contest when they took part in a Faraday Challenge Day.

The pupils took part in the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) Faraday Challenge Day STEM activity. A STEM Club is any out-of-timetable session that gives school students the chance to explore aspects of science, technology, engineering and maths.

As part of this event, teams competed to win a prize for themselves and a trophy for their school. The top teams from across the country get an all-expenses paid trip to the national final to compete for a cash prize of up to £1,000 for their school.

IET Faraday Challenge Days give students the opportunity to research, design and make prototype solutions to genuinely tough engineering problems. At each event teams compete to win a prize for themselves and a trophy for their school.

Stella Rogers, Isambard Community School’s learning resources centre manager, said: “On the day, we were joined by teams from Ridgeway, Commonweal and St Mary’s school in Calne. We are delighted to announce that the winners on the day were Isambard.

Making up the school’s winning team were pupils Millie, Liberty, Emma, Jacob, Joe and Reuben. Their score will be entered into the national league table. If they are in the top ten after all the other challenge days have been completed they will be invited to the final.
