SWINDON Borough Council has announced that all major works are expected to be completed at Bruce Street Bridges this weekend – weather permitting.

Work had been held up by the weather as engineers installed the final stretches of anti-skid material, but now all that remains to be done is for the road markings to be painted on.

A spokesman for the Great Western Way team said: “We are currently laying the last section of the anti-skid material on the approach to the pedestrian crossing at Rodbourne Road. The weather had hindered our progress in getting this laid last week, but we anticipate that this will be completed by the end of this week.

“The remaining slot cutting for the traffic loops is also being carried out and there will be some disruption whilst this is being completed.

“The last of the road markings will also be laid for the whole junction over the weekend, weather permitting. As the lines are laid, the cones will start to be removed and by early next week. Then the roundabout will be fully open.”

But it is not quite time for all of the workmen to leave the site, as there will be some other tasks which need to be completed first.

The spokesman said: “The traffic signals for the rest of the junction will be commissioned and tested next week and will be operational once the phasing of the lights is completed.”

The Great Western Way team have also sought to dispel a myth to drivers that flashing their headlights at these traffic lights will make them change to green quicker. This, they have said, is not the case, as it is the traffic loops that trigger the light change.

Drivers have also been warned that a bus gate will come back into force the week after next. The spokesman added: “The bus gate at Polaris Way will return back to buses only, inbound and outbound from Monday, March 14 from 8am. Enforcement of any breaches of the Traffic Regulation Order will resume from this date.”
