SOUTHFIELD Junior School pupils are hoping to skip their way to success with an unusual Sport Relief fundraiser next week.

Youngsters and their teachers at the Highworth-based school will take part in a 12-hour skipathon on March 18, raising awareness and funds for the bi-annual event.

The children who will be in teams will take part in half-hour session skipping sessions from 8am to 8pm.

And all 235 of them are hoping to raise a mammoth £5,000 for the cause.

Headteacher Nicola Anderton said the cause was important to the school and its children.

“As a Sports and Comic Relief ambassador school we’re always keen to get involved and do something fun for charity. We’re all looking forward to getting involved in this very different event," she said.

“Students and teachers love taking part in Sport Relief. It’s an excellent way to bring staff, students and the community together to get active, have fun and raise money for a great cause.”

“All the children are really excited about it. We’re hoping to have lots of parents, brothers, sisters and family members along in the evening to show their support."

And Nicola will also be picking up the jump rope to get involved alongside her pupils.

“I’m definitely getting involved and I can’t wait to take part with the children, “ she said.

Children will be treated to drinks, biscuits and a special celebration following the conclusion of the skipathon.

Sport Relief brings together the worlds of entertainment and sport to raise money for vulnerable and disadvantaged people across the UK and the world.

For Sport Relief 2014, more than 200 children and teachers from the school swam the length of three marathons and four lengths, raising £4,192.96 for the cause
