YOUNG munchkins and aspiring singers who follow the Yellow Brick Road at a musical theatre workshop will have the chance of performing in The Wizard of Oz.

SALOS will be presenting the family favourite, at Swindon’s Wyvern Theatre from Wednesday, October 19, to Saturday, October 22.

The musical theatre company have been staging musicals in Swindon since 1952, including Sister Act, Oliver!, Sweeney Todd, Annie, Crazy For You, Beauty & the Beast, My Fair Lady, Thoroughly Modern Millie and many other classics, but this is the first time they have tackled The Wizard of Oz.

The theatrical workshop will be for children aged seven years and over and will be a day of coaching by professionals in drama, singing and dancing.

It takes place on Monday, May 2, from 10am at Churchfields Academy and costs £10. SALOS are hoping to cast two groups of children to perform in alternate performances.

Director of the show, Russell Langdown, said: SALOS regularly have children appearing in shows and our casting workshops have always been very popular.

“Our recent production of “Oliver!” saw well over 100 children auditioning to perform with us. We always try to make sure they have great fun and learn new skills as part of a large-scale production in a professional theatre.’’ The workshop is open to all children regardless of whether they wish to appear in the show or not but those selected will need to pay a performing fee of £60.
