His face is immediately familiar, popping up on all the popular panel shows such as Virtually Famous, 8 out of 10 Cats, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Sweat the Small Stuff and even Celebrity Mastermind.

While his business cards state he is 'Comedian' Chris Ramsey, the Tyneside comic was first noticed when he took an acting role as Jack Pearson, in the BBC 2 sitcom Hebburn. The show was set close to his home town of South Shields.

Chris first trod the stand-up boards at an open mic night in Newcastle upon Tyne in 2007. The following year he was nominated for Chortle Student Comedian of the Year. He is unashamedly influenced by his comic hero Billy Connolly, and is currently on tour with his new show, All Growed Up, which will be stopping off in Swindon tomorrow, Friday April 8.

The show takes a look at the fears of growing older.

"It is about taking responsibility, realising you are no long a child and all of the other terrifying realisations that come with being dragged, kicking and screaming, into modern adulthood,'' he said.

The comedian has been noticed by the great and good having won a nomination for his show Offermation at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards in 2011. This led to the show being recorded for BBC Radio 4 the following year.

"I started comedy a few years ago and it's been one hell of a ride so far,'' he said.

Tickets to see Chris Ramsey at the Wyvern Theatre from 8pm are £18.50 from 01793 524481.
