POLICE are treating the death of a 75-year-old man in Swindon as suspicious.

His body was found at a house in Liden on Sunday evening.

The man, who is of Maltese origin, has been named locally as Charlie Brincat.

Police were called to a house in Hallam Moor, off White Edge Moor, after being alerted by the ambulance service just after 7pm.

A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said: “We received a call from the ambulance service to an address in Liden at 7.11pm on Sunday.

“A post mortem will be carried out in due course and we are currently in the process of locating and informing next of kin.

“The investigation is in the early stages but we are treating the death as suspicious.”

Neighbours told the Adver that Mr Brincat had lived at the address for around 30 years with his late wife, who is believed to have died over a year ago.

Vanita Chandarana said she last saw Mr Brincat at around 2pm on Saturday.

“He didn’t talk much. He kept himself to himself,” she said.

None of the neighbours saw or heard anything on Sunday.

Police confirmed this afternoon that they have arrested a 42-year-old man and the death of Mr Brincat is being treated as suspicious.

A spokesman for the police said: “A 42-year-old man from Swindon has been arrested in connection with the death.

"He remains in police custody at Gablecross police station.”
