TROWBRIDGE boxer Nick Blackwell has confirmed that his ring career is over following his ill-fated British middleweight title fight with Chris Eubank Jnr last month.

The 25-year-old was placed in an induced coma following his defeat at Wembley Arena on March 26 but is now on the road to recovery and hopes to return home soon.

'Bang Bang' Blackwell tweeted his thanks for the messages of support he had received for the first time yesterday.

And in a subsequent posting, the popular fighter confirmed that his 24-fight career was at an end.

Responding to a question about his future, Blackwell said: "That's me done I can't put my friends and family and self through that again but I'll still be involved.''

Earlier, he tweeted: “Just want to say a massive thank you for all the support and messages means the world too me I'm on the mend now so I've been very lucky.”

Blackwell's professional career saw him clinch 19 victories, with just four defeats and one draw.

He bears no ill-will towards conqueror Eubank after their match-up last month, the new champion tweeting that he hoped to visit his former rival soon and adding: "Hope there's no hard feelings."

Blackwell responded: "We were both doing a job and it was unfortunate."
