Police are appealing for witnesses to a sexual assault which took place in a public park in broad daylight.

The incident happened on Wednesday, April 13, when the victim was in The Mailcoach public house in Fleet Street when she was approached by a man, who is known to her. He led the victim to nearby Faringdon Park where he sexually assaulted her.

Following the incident the victim walked towards the bus stop near to the TA centre, opposite Dean Street. She last saw the man at this bus stop.

PC Julieann Rathbone said: “This was a frightening experience for the victim and I would like to appeal to anybody who was in the Mailcoach during the afternoon on 13 April, or anyone who was in the vicinity of Faringdon Park, who may have seen either the victim or the suspect.

A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
