AN argument over how late a woman’s guests could stay in her hostel room and a broken tumble drier led to an assault on a security guard and a police officer who came to arrest her.

Victoria Little pleaded guilty to assaulting the man and a separate charge of assaulting the police officer while carrying out their duty when she appeared before magistrates sitting in Swindon.

The court heard that the 19-year-old – currently of Rodwell Close, Park South - had been told that her two guests would need to leave before 11pm. But when she went to the office to request a tumble drier be fixed – which they were unable to do there and then – she became aggressive, and her two guests tried to get back in.

Pauline Lambert, prosecuting, told the court that her aggression mounted and she began spitting and foaming at the mouth and she was flailing her arms about while swearing at the hostel staff, who tried to defend themselves.

The police were called and they arrived, cuffed her and put her in the back of the vehicle where she kicked out at the arresting officer.

“She was taken to Gablecross where she continued to be aggressive and abusive throughout,” said Ms Lambert. “She alternated between crying and being apologetic.”

Defending her, Emma Hanslip told the magistrates that her client had been intoxicated at the time and couldn’t remember the incident, but accepted her actions when she was shown CCTV footage. “She was asked on a scale of one to ten how drunk she was,” said Ms Hanslip. “She said she was 11. There have been issues with probation and her compliance, but the news today is good and she is engaging – she is getting her alcohol usage under control and is drug free. She is doing what she is being asked to do.”

The magistrates also heard that she had £1,735 in outstanding court fines.

Chairman of the bench Val Street said they would revoke the community order that she was currently on and instead impose a new one for 12 months. She said: “The most important thing we have heard today is the progress you have made with this order. We are very impressed by what the probation service has said.”

She was also ordered to pay a £60 victim surcharge.
