A PARALYMPIAN and former Commonweal School student has lent her support to a charity cabaret night at the school next month.

Wanborough wheelchair tennis ace Louise Hunt, 25, donated a racket and a signed shirt for the auction held as part of the evening’s entertainment on May 26.

The charity cabaret, performed annually since 2011, is raising money for Swindon SANDS (Stillbirth & Neonatal Death) along with Louise’s mission to represent Great Britain in the Rio Paralympics this summer. Teachers will show off their performing arts skills with a night of comedy, song and dance followed by an auction.

Head of music Ali Sutcliffe said the school was delighted to auction the items donated by the athlete.

“As a former pupil it means a lot to have the support of Louise on board. We’re so happy to be able to help get her on her road to Rio, she represents everything the school is about," she said.

The unique cabaret show of teaching talent is set to bring a smile to everyone’s faces with head teacher Keith Defter singing and playing guitar and Ali belting out a Frozen medley. Ali said she has high hopes for this year’s performance.

“It is always sold-out and everyone has so much fun. This term is always so busy for students and teachers alike so it is lovely to have a big event like this to look forward to.

“Last year we raised over £2000 for charity and we hope to get more than that this year. Most of the money is raised through the auction which had gym membership, signed football shirts shop and restaurant vouchers and beauty treatments."

The cabaret night starts at 7pm with tickets priced at £6.

Commonweal are looking for companies to donate prizes to the auction. If you can help email Ali Sutcliffe at asutcliffe@commonweal.co.uk
