SWINDON Town Ladies manager Steve Robertson is convinced that his troops have their eyes trained solely on the prize as they bid for title glory tomorrow.

Robertson’s side, who have suffered one defeat all season to date, need just a single point from their clash with second-from-bottom Shanklin on Sunday to claim the FA Women’s Premier League South West Division One title and secure promotion to the Southern Division – the third tier of women’s football in England.

Town would also be victorious if second-placed Chichester fail to beat Keynsham Town tomorrow or, failing that, Maidenhead United on May 8.

However, Robertson would prefer his team to get the job done themselves against the outfit from the Isle of Wight at Shrivenham’s Barrington Park ground (kick-off 2pm).

Despite the groundswell of hype surrounding Swindon’s potential coronation, Robertson is backing his players to rise above the nerve-jangling pressure of Sunday’s showdown.

“Whenever we’ve gone to Shanklin, we’ve always struggled to break them down. We drew 0-0 there last season and that cost us a bit,” said the Swindon Ladies boss.

“This year, we went there and won 2-0, so we overcame that and the omens are good.

“We trained really well this week and we’re treating it the same as any other game.

“I think that a few of the more senior girls are making sure that the ones that might not keep their feet on the ground aren’t getting carried away.

“We’re focussed on making sure that we’re ready to get the right result.

“I think that the girls know that there might be a few more people there than normal on Sunday but if anything, that should give them a boost.

“Shanklin have a long way to travel but we’re not expecting anything other than them turning up to try and upset us. At the end of the day, that’s their job.

“The league has got better this year but we’ve learned from last year and stayed in the top three or four all season.

“We’re not thinking about anything other than this game and if we get the right result on Sunday, we can give ourselves a pat on the back.”

Town’s title bid fell agonisingly short last season as they finished third in the table, just a point behind champions Forest Green Rovers, after being hit with a three-point deduction in January for fielding an ineligible player.

If promoted to the Southern Division, they could find themselves alongside Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Queens Park Rangers.
