CUSTOMERS and staff at Morrisons have been tucking into cupcakes and French fancies today as part of a community tea party in aid of charity Sue Ryder.

Employees at the store in Regent Circus wore ‘blue for Sue’ and customers were invited to join in with fun and games to help reach the store’s fundraising goal of £150.

There were also hot drinks up for grabs and a number of other sweet treats to entice people to make a donation for the worthy cause.

Cashier Tina Dee, 46, from Haydon Wick, who is also the store’s community champion, helped organise the event.

She said: “It’s gone really well. It’s involving customers and staff and boosts morale and raises money for a good cause.

“People can help themselves to a cake for a donation, there has been balloons for the children and a few little games like guess how many teabags there are in the container and balance the 20 pence on the lemon. It’s very simple but people are finding it fun.

“It just brings the community together and we try to help where we can. People have really taken an interest.

“We have also got a really good raffle which local businesses, such as the Gourmet Burger Kitchen, Nandos and the cinema, has donated towards and as Morrisons we also donated the majority of the prizes.”

And she added: “It’s very rewarding and it’s just been a really good atmosphere and draws people in.”

There is still time to enter the raffle and it will be drawn on Monday morning in the café. All the donations will also be counted on Tuesday.
