HUNDREDS of revellers danced the night away at Swindon Music Festival this Bank Holiday weekend.

It was held at Boston Brothers nightclub in Bridge Street on Sunday from midday and scores of people queued to get inside and watch more than 100 musicians from the area showcase their talent.

AJ Mayhew, 30, organised the event with fellow musician Paul Carroll, after taking on the reins of SN1 Fest, one of the town’s biggest reggae and dance music events, which was run for the last time in 2015.

They gave it a rebrand and renamed it SMF, added some extra features and have been blown away by how well the night went.

“It was an amazing success, all of the artists put on a great show,” said AJ.

“During the day we had the acoustic corner, which saw a range of acoustic acts perform and get the day started, this was a new addition to the event and worked really well.

“From 4pm the garden turned into Play Time which saw a huge line up of DJs playing to 1am.

“The atmosphere was amazing and everyone danced into the night.”

Upstairs there was also a lyricology showcase, which brought together some of the top DJs and dancers from Swindon’s hip-hop scene. There was also drum and bass artists and MCs.

AJ added: “Downstairs on level one saw DJs playing house all day and evening, again the atmosphere was electric.

“We are really happy with the turnout for the event and SMF was the biggest showcase of local talent that the town has ever seen. We were ambitious with how many acts we had included, but it worked well and everyone involved delivered a great show.

“Our lighting and sound team made sure it looked and sounded great throughout the day and the venue staff did an excellent job.

“We would like to thank our team who worked with us on the day to ensure it all ran smoothly. Most of all we need to thank all of the party people who came down and supported the event, you all brought good vibes with you and created an amazing atmosphere.

“There was a huge queue that was all the way down to Subway at one point which is great to see, it reminded me of a queue from Brunel Rooms back in the day."

And he added: “We will be going over the event in the next few weeks and seeing how we can build on the amazing success of our first event. The foundations have been built and the transition from SN1 Fest to SMF has happened.

“We are ready to continue flying the flag and we are already looking forward to SMF 2017 already.”
