A man who died following an assault in Swindon town centre has been formally identified as Grzegorz Beyer.

Known as Grzesiek, the 40-year-old lived on Edmund Street in Swindon.

Mr Beyer, a father-of-three daughters aged between 10 and 15, sustained a serious injury during an assault in Swindon town centre in the early hours of Bank Holiday Monday.

He sadly died yesterday evening.

His family are being supported by specialist family liaison officers at this difficult time.

A post mortem examination will be carried out by a Home Office pathologist tomorrow.

The family of Mr Beyer have released the following tribute:

“We have been left completely devastated at the tragic and sudden loss of Grzesiek. He was a loving husband, father and son and will be missed by all of his family and friends.

"We are struggling to come to terms with the void Grzesiek’s passing has left in our lives and would request to be left in privacy at this sad time.

"We hope that anyone who has any information about what happened to Grzesiek comes forward and helps police with their investigation immediately.”

Detective Chief Inspector Jeremy Carter said: “Our deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of Mr Beyer at this extremely difficult time.

“Our team of dedicated officers and staff are continuing to work tirelessly on this case to identify the person responsible and I would ask anyone who was in the area of Bridge Street, Canal Walk, The Parade or Regent Street between the hours of 11pm on Sunday and 3am on Monday to please call police immediately on 101.
