A MOBILE police information unit will be based in the town centre tonight and tomorrow as the investigation into the murder of Grzegorz Beyer continues.
Officers will be available at the police point, due to be located near to Bridge Street, to offer reassurance and advice on personal safety when out and about.
There will also be a team of specialist officers and staff available to assist if anyone has information which may help the investigation.
Local commander, Superintendent Charlie Armstrong, said: “It is important that this appeal remains fresh in people’s minds and we hope the presence of a mobile police point in the town centre will encourage anyone with information on the incident, to come and talk to us.
“This weekend will mark the one-week anniversary of the incident and we are determined to speak to as many people who frequent the town centre pubs and clubs as possible, in order to build a clearer picture of the hours leading up to the incident late last Sunday and into the early hours of Monday.”
After the weekend, the mobile police information unit will be located outside the Polish Community Centre, off Whitbourne Avenue, from 10am to 9pm for several days.
Swindon town centre Inspector Steve Mcgrath said: “The Polish community in Swindon is widespread but we are confident that a town centre presence, as well as a presence near to the popular community centre, will ensure we are able to engage with the Polish community, who may have vital information which could help with our investigation.
“No doubt there has been a lot of conversations within the community since this tragic incident and I would like to appeal to anyone who has heard anything which may assist officers to get in touch.”
Detective Chief Inspector Jeremy Carter, who is leading the investigation, said: “Our team of dedicated officers and staff are continuing to work tirelessly on this case and I would ask anyone who was in the area of Bridge Street, Canal Walk, The Parade or Regent Street between the hours of 11pm on Sunday and 3am on Monday to please call police immediately on 101.
"Alternatively, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously if preferred. Any information you have, no matter how small, may be significant to our investigation."
