A WOMAN has received a conditional discharge after she failed to notify the Department for Work and Pensions that her partner was working.

Laura Coleman, of Whiteman Street, pleaded guilty to the offence when she came before magistrates sitting in Swindon.

The 29-year-old was claiming Employment Support Allowance between November 2014 and May 2015, but failed to tell the DWP that her partner was in receipt of income.

The magistrates imposed a conditional discharge for six months, which means that she won't be punished for the offence unless she commits another offence within six months.

She was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £15 and Crown Prosecution Service costs of £85.

A driver who ignored a no entry sign while behind the wheel of a car with no insurance has been fined.

Jordan Treharne, 21, initially denied the allegation of ignoring the no entry sign on Stratton Road, but changed his plea to guilty.

He also admitted not having any insurance when he was caught on December 21 of last year.

The magistrates fined the Oxford Road resident £300 and ordered he pay a victim surcharge of £30 along with £150 in Crown Prosecution Service costs. He also had six points added to his driving licence.

A woman has been fined after she damaged a man's belongings worth £175.

Aideen Casey, 38, of Portland Avenue, pleaded guilty to damaging the household items on April 10 when she came before magistrates sitting in Swindon.

Casey was fined £185 and ordered to pay £100 compensation along with a £30 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.

The magistrates said they had taken her guilty plea into account when deciding on her fine.

After damaging the walls of a home and a computer monitor a man then caused further damage to a police-issued blanket.

Jason Gerrard, 44, of Capesthorne Drive, pleaded guilty to the two offences dating from April 6 when he appeared before magistrates sitting in Swindon.

The magistrates ordered he pay a fine of £540 as well as £85 Crown Prosecution Service costs.

Gerrard was further ordered to pay £45.99 compensation to Wiltshire Police for the damaged police blanket.

A man who wrote graffiti over a woman's kitchen wall and cupboard and damaged her lounge window has been fined.

Stephen Keighley, 48, of Colingsmead, admitted the two offences dating from December 28, 2015, and January 1 but pleaded not guilty to two counts of assaulting the woman on the same dates.

Keighley was found not guilty at trial for these offences and they were dismissed.

He was however ordered to pay a fine of £45 for the criminal damage charges along with £85 court costs and a £20 victim surcharge. He must repay the amount at a rate of £5 a week.
