HAVING had his day in court facing a number of road rage incidents a man then took to social media to make offensive remarks about one of his victims.

Seeing the comments that Michael Crossley made about his wife, Dean Dixon of Mir Crescent took matters into his own hands and caused more than £1,000 of damage to the car that had been at the centre of the court proceedings.

Last month 31-year-old Crossley, of Deneb Drive, was convicted at trial for five offences, including throwing a fistful of coins at a woman's Kia Sportage when she refused to back up to let him pass and shunting his neighbour's car out of the way with his van. He denied any wrong-doing throughout.

Crossley was given a community order, told to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work, pay court costs of £775 and pay £575 compensation for the damage to the Kia.

In court on Wednesday District Judge Simon Cooper heard that none of the compensation had yet been paid, although he did point out that Crossley had until today to pay it.

Vyvyan Thatcher, prosecuting, told the court that in the early hours of the morning 37-year-old Dixon had gone to Crossley's address after he discovered comments had been made on social media by Crossley about his wife.

When he refused to come outside and speak to him Dixon broke both of the wing mirrors on his 14-plate BMW 335.

Defending Dixon, Wayne Hardy told the court that his client had bottled up his anger and unfortunately then gone out and had too much to drink.

District Judge Cooper imposed a restraining order against Dixon for a period of 12 months and described the incident as "a foolish and stupid thing to do".

He received a conditional discharge for 12 months and was ordered to pay compensation of £1,200 to Crossley for the damaged wing mirrors.
