A BOY has spent the night in police custody after an alleged assault on his mother and sister.

The 12-year-old – who cannot be named due to a court order to protect his identity – appeared in the dock from custody at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

The court heard the boy – who has no previous convictions - had been arrested at 9.15am on Sunday morning and then spent 24-hours in police custody as there was nowhere else for him to be released to.

The magistrates adjourned the hearing to the youth court on Tuesday, May 31. In the meantime the boy was released on unconditional bail to return to his family home.
