A plucky team from Cross Street will lace their walking boots as they embrace a 40-mile trek across the Cotswold countryside in the name of charity.

Headed by Dan Sinclair, and including local businessman Sat Nijjar, the team will head out at midnight on June 11, with flashlights and map, navigating the route step by step.

Cross Street have entered two teams of four in “The Plod”, an event specifically setup to raise funds for action medical research for children, the team also have two drivers to assist in the event of injuries.

Every mile will count as the teams have set an ambitious fundraising target of £3,000 and are determined to not only complete the course, but also exceed their target.

This isn’t the first time the team from Swindon based Cross Street have headed out in the name of charity. They took part in last year’s event too, successfully raising over £3,000 in the process.

Dan Sinclair said: “Last year we decided to take on The Plod, thinking it would be a lot easier than it was. Our team worked the normal day then set off at midnight and after less than two hours one of the team pulled up with an injury.

“We pitched in and carried our team member to a safe point to be collected; this left the team over an hour behind. With morale low we proceeded and ended up having to run to meet the required check points.

“The team finally dropped out after trekking over 30 miles.

“We raised over £3,000 for the charity in the process.

“This year Cross Street have entered two very determined teams, we know we will not be stopping until we cross the finish line this year. We would appreciate any support as this is a bigger challenge than most think and with not much time for training it’s going to be a very long day/night.”

Kam Kaur of Cross Street said: “We are raising money for children’s charity Action Medical Research, dedicated to improving the health of babies and children.

“Despite enormous progress in medicine, there are still hundreds of thousands of sick and disabled children who need our help. Children like Katie, born two months early who needed resuscitating at birth, Cieran who was left with deafness, epilepsy and cerebral palsy because of meningitis and Jack, who as a baby, was diagnosed with brain cancer.

“Action Medical Research is offering hope to the many thousands of families who are dealing with the trauma of a baby born too early, striving to support a child affected by disability, or facing the challenge of caring for a child with a rare and devastating disease for which there is no cure.

“Right now the best medical minds in children’s hospitals and universities across the UK are waiting for the green light to start research that could lead to life-changing treatments for babies and children.

“They just need the funding.’’ Cross Street is a household name in Swindon with businesses based on Transfer Bridge Industrial Estate, Cross Street in Old Town, and at the train station, specialising in quality used car sales, motor finance, motor maintenance and repairs and a private hire service.
