NURSING staff at Nurse Plus joined thousands of hairos all over the country when they donned brightly coloured wigs to raise cash for children’s cancer charity Clic Sargent.

The team of recruitment consultants caused hilarity among their clients and their neighbours at Kembrey Park with their vivid hairdos for Wig Wednesday.

Becky Barclay said because they were a recruitment agency for nurses and carers looking after the vulnerable and children with special needs they were keen to support good causes.

“We are always looking to try to help any charity and Clic Sargent is such a big thing for me personally.”

She explained a friend had lost her six-year-old daughter to a brain tumour.

When she brought the idea up with her workmates they were quick to add their support.

Becky said: “Because we are in the care industry we try to get as many charities as possible and help out where we can, anything that is close to us, anything that might involve the work that we are doing. It’s fun. We like to bring fun into the office.”

So far their efforts have raised £70 but more money is coming in every day.

“We went round some of our nextdoor neighbours and they all helped out and bought cakes. They were all laughing at our costumes.”

Wig Wednesday started in 2011, inspired by the experience of being treated for cancer. Over the years it has attracted support from people all over the UK as well as celebrities including actress Celia Imrie, Robert Glenister and Tara Palmer Tompkinson.

The money raised can help to pay for families to stay in Clic Sargent homes from home so they can be close to where their child is receiving treatment. It can also go towards the cost of the charity’s own nurses and social workers.
