COCKNEY geezers Chas & Dave are back on tour this year and Swindonians can catch up with them at The Wyvern Theatre in July.

Pioneers of the 'Rockney' genre with their blend of memorable songs, music-hall humour, and rock'n'roll, the duo and have recently released the critically acclaimed That’s What Happens, their first studio album in 27 years.

In a career spanning more than 50 years Chas & Dave are one of Britain’s longest running and best loved rock acts. Arriving on the music scene in the 70s with hits such as Gertcha, Rabbit, The Sideboard Song, Margate, and Aint No Pleasing You, they created a sound that was uniquely British and rockin' to boot. And it’s those songs that have ensured that the boys have continued to tour for over five decades to audiences across the world with their down-to-earth charm and great song-writing.

Having played to thousands of delighted people at the Glastonbury festivals in 2005 and 2007 and at Bestival in 2012, their contribution to popular culture was recognized by BBC Four with an hour-long documentary detailing their career and influence. The hugely popular show featured input from Jools Holland, Phill Jupitus, and Pete Doherty among others. They were also invited to play the finale of the Royal Variety Performance in 2013 with a rousing sing-song featuring Gary Barlow, Robbie Williams, Mary J Blige, and Jessie J singing along to London Girls.

The same year, Chas & Dave performed a sold-out debut show at London’s most iconic venue, the Royal Albert Hall, and made numerous headline-grabbing festival appearances at Sonisphere at Knebworth. They were also recognized by the esteemed Nordoff Robbins Foundation who awarded Chas & Dave the 2014 Silver Clef Icon award at a ceremony that included fellow award-winners Pharrell Williams, Paloma Faith, Sir Tom Jones, and Giorgio Moroder.

Their first studio album in 27 years sees Chas & Dave return to their roots with a collection of early R&B, skiffle and rock n’ roll classics alongside new takes on songs of their own and featuring Albert Lee, Martin Taylor, Buddy Holly and The Crickets’ drummer J. I Allison, Jools Holland and Hugh Laurie.

They were recently asked to take part in the 70th anniversary VE day celebrations and performed at the BBC/Royal British Legion Party to Remember concert at Royal Horseguards alongside Status Quo, Gregory Porter, Catherine Jenkins, and many more.
