DOZENS of music fans were pickpocketed at the sell-out Kasabian gig by an organised gang of thieves on Thursday night.

Police believe they may have travelled specifically to target revellers who gathered at the Oasis Leisure Centre to see the chart-topping band perform.

And what was meant to be an evening of entertainment turned sour for some when they realised their phones had been taken from their pockets or their handbags without them knowing.

One person who contacted the Swindon Advertiser said they had heard reports of more than 30 phones being taken.

He said: “One of my friends attended the Kasabian gig at the Oasis where he had his phone stolen.

“Once he realised his phone had been stolen our other friend used the iPhone app where it was shown to be near the Tesco supermarket on Ocotal Way, this was still during the gig, therefore whoever had taken it had not gone to the gig to see the band, but to steal phones.”

The man also claimed when looking on social media they saw a person post a message saying they had taken iPhones and Samsung phones at the gig, which they were now selling. The man took a screenshot and is passing it onto the police.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We have had reports that a number of mobile phones were taken from people at the concert at the Oasis on Thursday, 26 May.

“We believe the pick-pocketing thefts could have been carried out by an organised gang from outside the Swindon and Wiltshire area.

“We are currently investigating the incidents. If anyone has any information which might help in our enquiries, they are asked to contact Sheila Britten at Wiltshire Police on 101.”
