RICHARD Farnan believes that if Ryan Martin can stop Arvydas Trizno inside the six rounds next week then he will send out a ‘massive statement’.

The unbeaten welterweight is the chief support to Kelly Morgan’s WBC Silver title fight on Neilson Boxing’s first professional show at Grange Drive Leisure Centre on Friday, June 10.

The 22-year-old has not boxed since October when he comfortably out-pointed the tricky southpaw Faheem Khan to win the British Challenge title at the Oasis Leisure Centre.

However, with his progress being stymied due to inactivity, next Friday’s six-rounder is a chance for the former England and Walcot amateur to shake off the ring rust and take his professional record to seven wins in as many contests.

While Martin is expected to come through the bout against Trizno unscathed, if he is able to get the durable Lithuanian - he has only been stopped eight times in his 53 defeats - out of the ring inside the distance then trainer Farnan feels that will help catapult his fighter to bigger things.

“The problem that I have had with Ryan is I need someone to test him,” Farnan said. “He has not been tested at all yet. He is doing what he wants.

“Trizno is tough and awkward, he covers up and he has not been stopped that often. He looks to counter after being tucked but we have found his weakness.

“If Ryan could stop him that would be a massive statement. I have been in the corner with Trizno when he did get stopped.

“That was against Junior Witter, a former world champion and he did stop him in the fourth round.

“We need to put on a good performance – I know that he will do. He is firing on all cylinders and punching so hard but they are in clusters.”
