THE weirder the food, the more likely people are to tell you it tastes like chicken.

And when Hayley Lloyd tucked into a can of dog food to raise money for charity on Sunday, that’s exactly what she said.

Hayley, 35, who owns Paw Connections dog training facility on the Cheney Manor Industrial Estate, was taking on the unusual challenge in aid of the Blue Cross pet charity.

The charity which is always looking for new fundraising ideas has invited people to buy a tin of dog food of their choice and secure sponsorship to eat it

“I wanted to raise some money for them but most of their fundraising events are sporty things which doesn’t really appeal to me," said Hayley.

“When I saw this as an option to raise money I thought it looked like a good idea.

“Most people I have spoken to said eewww. I don’t think a lot of them believed I would actually go through with it – but as long as we raise some money I don’t mind.

“It just tasted a bit like cold chicken with rice and a few vegetables, it could have done with some salt but other than that it wasn’t too bad.”

Hayley has raised almost £100 for the charity so far, and now with photographic proof that she did indeed go through with it, she is hoping to push that total up even more.

Her two and a half year old Pomeranian, Pippin, was there to watch as she peeled open the tin and got to work.

She only managed half of it before Pippin, and two other dogs who were there, got to help out with the rest.

Katie Fitzgibbon, from the Blue Cross charity, said: “Our fundraising team have various challenges that people can sign up for like skydiving and bungee jumping, but they’re trying to think of new ideas that would appeal to other people.

“It’s not something I would personally do but it’s different, it’s unusual and good on Hayley for giving it a go.

“Hopefully a few more people will fancy taking on the challenge and put themselves forward to raise some money for Blue Cross.”
